Six memorable moments from T20 World Cup

The 2021 T20 World Cup has started in the United Arab Emirates and Oman on October 17 and runs until the final on November 14.

Now are six unforgettable flashes from the previous six preceding:

Yuvraj takes route 6×6

At the first 2007 T20 World Cup in South Africa, India’s Yuvraj Singh hit six sixes in an over off the all over Stuart Broad in a group big game against England in Durban. Yuvraj got remained motivated by a verbal confrontation with Andrew Flintoff and he moved on to take the lead his team to an 18-run win. India was to beat Pakistan in the final.

Dutch courage at Lord’s

In the 2009 game opener, the Netherlands drew off a thrilling four-wicket win over England at Lord’s, the ‘Home of Cricket’, in one of the sport’s biggest shocks. Trailing 163 to win, the Dutch people scored two runs off the final ball. Tommy de Grooth, who complete a crucial 49 for the Netherlands, said: “We put out a few months ago to attain a few things — and this was one. We would like to play at Lord’s, qualify for the World Cup in 2011 and beat a big nation, and I believe we just did that.”

Carlos Brathwaite, ‘remember the name’

England perceived victory in the 2016 final at Eden Gardens somewhere West Indies, chasing a 156-run target, needed 19 off the final over to be bowled by Ben Stokes. Along with Marlon Samuels at the previous end after a vital innings of 85 runs in 66 balls, Brathwaite released four consecutive sixes into the Kolkata night sky. “Carlos Brathwaite! Carlos Brathwaite – think of the name! History for the West Indies,” said reporter Ian Bishop.

Pakistan heal wounds

Two years after their tragic final defeat to old competitors India by just five runs in Johannesburg, Pakistan got the 2009 trophy with an eight-wicket victory over Sri Lanka at Lord’s. Pakistan limited Sri Lanka to 138-6 before celebrity Shahid Afridi headed the run chase, knocking an undefeated 54 off 40 balls.

Heroic Herath

Sri Lanka have being champions of the 2014 competition in Bangladesh but they wanted all the cunning skills and power of spinner Rangana Herath to really make it to the semi-finals. Challenging New Zealand in a make-or-break pass game, Sri Lanka were thrown out for just 119.

But Herath terminated Brendon McCullum, Ross Taylor, Jimmy Neesham, Luke Ronchi and Trent Boult as the Black Caps remained untied for just 60 runs. Herath took five wickets for just three runs.

Root, Roy star in epic chase

At the 2016 game, South Africa stacked up 229-4 in Mumbai off their 20 overs with Hashim Amla, Quinton de Kock and JP Duminy all make up half-centuries.

On the while it was second greatest ever total at a T20 World Cup but England poked thick as Joe Root hit a 44-ball 83 and Jason Roy crushed 43 from 16 deliveries.

England missed two wickets in the final over with the scores even before Moeen Ali closed victory with two balls to extra.
