Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium PSL 2024 | Pakistan Cricket Grounds

Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium was established in 1992 and hosted its first ever international match the same year when Pakistan played against Sri Lanka. Followed by a test match debut when Pakistan played against Zimbabwe in 1993.

Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium History

In his short history of International cricket, Rawalpindi cricket stadium hosted 03 matches of Will Cricket World Cup 1996. The ground has also seen some historic moments especially associated with Pakistan Cricket.

Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium Major Matches

South Africa’s Gary Kirsten scored 188 not out against the United Arab Emirates during 1996 world cup and just missed the world record of highest ODI score by 01 runs at that time.

Rawalpindi crowd witnessed young Pakistani fast bowler Mohammad Zahid steaming during 1996 when he took 11 wickets on test debut against New Zealand and he is till date only Pakistan to have achieved this fate.

In 2004 crowd also watched one of the finest test innings on Pakistan soil when India’s Rahul Dravid scored 270 runs on this ground.

This ground is also the home ground of test cricketers Mohammad Wasim who scored a century on test debut against New Zealand in 1996 and Shoaib Akhtar who is also renowned as Rawalpindi Express because of his belongingness to this city.

Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium Seating Capacity

Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium is yet to host a T20 international match. Stadium with a capacity of 15000 spectators is a twin city with a capital of Pakistan Islamabad. This ground also has the honour to host the first ever test match played in Pakistan after a gap of almost 10 years when this ground hosted the test match of Pakistan vs Sri Lanka.

PSL 2022 matches to be played at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium

Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium will host 8 matches of Pakistan Super League 2022 season. It is considered as the home ground of Islamabad United.
